IRK Magazine’s “Soaking Wet” Issue: An Immersive Dive into Creative Deluge
The Soaking Wet issue, splashes onto the scene with an unapologetically bold and drenched vision. From sexy wet panties to cinematic rain-soaked landscapes. This issue plunges into the many interpretations of getting wet—provocative, dramatic, and beautifully chaotic.
The inspiration for this theme may have started with a playful rain dance. But the resulting deluge in France, with the Seine’s waters rising, proved our intentions worked perhaps a little too well. Nevertheless, the artistic downpour that followed made it all worth it.
The Soaking Wet issue serves as a vessel for photographers who thrive in this aqueous aesthetic. Showcasing talent that not only embraced but fully immersed themselves in this creative storm.
A Dive into Creative Depths
At the heart of this issue lies Origin, a breathtaking series by Marta Bevacqua. Known for her ethereal style, Bevacqua crafts an underwater world where beauty mingles with marine life—fish, jellyfish, feathers, and even caviar—resulting in a visual feast that feels fluid and dreamlike.
The issue expands beyond fashion and beauty, diving into diverse waters with talents like Micky Clément. His Promise of the Dawn series captures the serene yet enigmatic essence of water through quiet, meditative poolscapes. Meanwhile, Cédric Porchez’s Liquid Light offers a moody still-life exploration of water in all its forms—from mist to ice—casting everyday elements into a fresh, almost mystical light.
Art Meets Water
Jenya Vyguzov’s Cut to Fit brings an urban edge with mixed media collages combining draped fabrics and splashes of wet paint. Photographer Léa Gendrot, alongside designer Martine Gendrot, delivers a semi-nude shoot draped in plastic, pushing boundaries and redefining the wet look.
Mizuho Hayashitani and photographer Hayato contribute Head in the Clouds, an ode to childhood nostalgia where bubble baths meet art. Nature, nudes, and colorful mousse swirl together, crafting a story that is at once innocent and surreal.
Fashion Drenched in Emotion
The issue brims with fashion narratives that embrace wetness, both literal and metaphorical.
- Cesar Love Alexander’s Calypso follows a girl wandering Normandy’s coast, capturing the sea’s pull and the internal longing it stirs.
- Morgane Gielen’s Ou est le Swimming Pool paints a wet, crumbling vision of Berlin.
- Morgan Miller and art director Matthew Riva’s Longing for Darkness features top model Kamila Hansen. She is soaked in couture, delving into taboos and the mysteries of dark nights.
- Jack Codling’s Shallow End offers a surrealist twist—a cowgirl lounging at a condemned pool. His story filled with his signature mix of humor, mystery, and a touch of the absurd.
- The dynamic French Cowboy duo delivers twice
- first with the cover story Paris Sans la Pluie. This whimsical swimsuit editorial features Paris as the backdrop, peppered with giant pegasus, pet crocodiles, and a playful spirit.
- Wet Panties, teases the senses with flowers, ice cream, milk, and more. They offer a cheeky yet artistic exploration of intimacy and spontaneity.
