Reviving craft by Bosideng
If the Chinese dynasties were to step foot into modern society, they would do so, dressed by Bosideng’s latest collection. In fact Bosidengs latest works shown in the exhibition “reviving craft” at the Musée des Arts décoratifs. Presents an interesting fusion between tradition, craft and modernity.
First paying attention to the garment, a result of the elegant fusion between traditional chinese costumes and modern daily attire. From the cuts to the patterns and styling. Ancestral chinese silhouettes and clothing codes have been revisited in a dynamic manner. Giving us clothes reminiscent of ancient asian heritage. But with pieces easily slipped into the course of our busy work lives. Like a simple daily life homage to this rich legacy, Chinese history bears.
Yet the homage to heritage and innovation doesn’t limit to the design at Bosideng. In fact it is the motto followed throughout the entire design process. From the careful curation of fabrics and materials such as mulberry silk, to the natural vegetable dyes. The methods employed for the crafting of the clothes both emulate ancient techniques. But also cater to the modern day needs for sustainability and eco responsibility.
Hosted on the 60th anniversary of the franco-chinese friendship and colliding with the year of tourism, this show allowed a brief wif of fashion and asian heritage in the midst of the hectic Olympic Games preparations in Paris.
