A Culinary Escape in Paris at Le Standard
As soon as you step into Le Standard, located at 1 Boulevard du Montparnasse, you are immediately captivated by the warm atmosphere that permeates the space. Inspired by the spirit of chic hotel bars in the American Rockies. This café-restaurant skillfully blends rustic touches with contemporary elegance. The dark wood paneling, comfortable seating, and soft lighting create a soothing ambiance, perfect for relaxation. The music, shifting between jazz and reimagined classics, adds a sophisticated touch to a setting. Where you can enjoy creative cocktails paired with tapas. Or indulge in refined cuisine that draws on both French and exotic influences—all within a cozy and laid-back atmosphere.
Signature cocktails.
The evening began with a sampling of two signature cocktails. Which perfectly reflect the creativity and care put into the drink menu. The first, a pear cocktail, stood out with its simple yet elegant presentation. The subtle flavors of cinnamon and pear blended harmoniously, offering a drink as refreshing as it was unique. It’s the kind of cocktail you savor slowly, enjoying the relative calm of the venue. While watching the bustle of Montparnasse through large windows. The second cocktail, infused with thyme, was equally delightful. Its balanced flavor, enhanced by fresh thyme sprigs, provided a delicate aromatic note, ideal for complementing a quiet evening.
Cuisine
Le Standard doesn’t just serve inventive cocktails; its cuisine is equally impressive. For starters, I tried a gravlax and some spring rolls, two dishes that showcase the exotic influences present on the menu. The gravlax, beautifully presented, featured high-quality fish, elevated by fruity touches of passion fruit and mango compote. The contrast between the bitterness and acidity of the fruits created a surprising and pleasant burst of flavors. The spring rolls, though simpler, were homemade and expertly crafted. Their freshness and crispy texture were enjoyable, though a bit more character could have made them unforgettable.
Main course
For the main courses, the restaurant continued to impress. With two choices that recall the authentic flavors of French cuisine while adding a modern twist. The peppered beef tenderloin bourguignon was a true homage to French classics. The meat, tender and perfectly cooked, was enhanced by a rich, spicy pepper sauce that made every bite comforting and flavorful. The shredded beef, slow-cooked for ten hours, was equally remarkable. The extremely tender meat paired wonderfully with the confit carrots and eggplant. Offering a dish that was both delicate and full of flavor.
Dessert
The meal concluded on a gourmet note, with two desserts that beautifully rounded off the evening. The cheese plate, featuring Saint-Nectaire and Bleu, was a real treat. Especially when paired with glasses of white and red wine that perfectly highlighted the flavors of the cheeses. The second dessert, a honey-roasted fig served with crumble and Bourbon vanilla cream, was simply divine. The warm, slightly caramelized fig paired perfectly with the freshness of the cream and the crunch of the crumble. The combination of flavors between the honey and vanilla provided an exquisite sweetness, closing the meal on a perfect note.
Le Standard is much more than just a café-restaurant. It’s a true sensory experience that masterfully combines the elegance of chic hotel bars in the America. With the authenticity of French cuisine, enhanced by exotic touches. It’s a place where you come to relax. Savor carefully prepared dishes and drinks, and enjoy an ambiance that blends comfort with sophistication. A must-visit for all lovers of fine dining and uniquely charming venues.
