Makeup Artist Ruby Mazuel: LOST IN SPACE a Cosmic Vision
Makeup artist Ruby Mazuel launches us into the unknown in LOST IN SPACE, a futuristic editorial where editorial beauty fuses seamlessly with sci-fi fantasy and high fashion. From the very beginning, the photo series — created in collaboration with visionary photography duo French Cowboy (Mia Macfarlane and Julien Crouigneau) — sets out to transcend earthly aesthetics. As a result, it opens portals to entirely new dimensions of visual storytelling.
The shoot unfolds at Pop Studio Paris, where every detail is meticulously constructed. Not only does cold light cast striking angular shadows, but silver textures also enhance the editorial’s interstellar ambiance. Furthermore, the set design by Déborah Sadoun adds significant depth, making the environment feel immersive and futuristic. At the same time, models Misha and Sephora — styled by Axelle Gomila — wear sculptural silhouettes that mimic the orbit of distant planets. Meanwhile, hairstylist Kevin Dos Santos Cardoso creates ethereal crowns and nebular braids, which seem to float effortlessly in zero gravity.
Together, these elements converge to create a hyper-stylized world — one that exists purely for editorial exploration. Yet, at the heart of this visual galaxy is makeup artist Ruby Mazuel. Known for her fearless approach to color and her fine art influences, Mazuel doesn’t just apply makeup — she invents characters. Her otherworldly creations, featuring silver gradients, alien iridescence, and orbital accents, transform each face into a cosmic artifact.
Makeup Artist Ruby Mazuel: Artistry Without Borders
Over the course of her career, Ruby Mazuel has carved out a distinctive space in the beauty world. More importantly, her work proves that makeup can be more than surface-level — it can be conceptual and emotionally resonant. For instance, she gained widespread attention for her creative looks during Belgian pop star Angèle’s Nonante-Cinq tour. Not only did her designs captivate audiences, but they also earned praise from critics for their artistry.
In addition, Mazuel’s work is deeply rooted in visual storytelling. She draws consistent inspiration from the great masters of painting and sculpture. Because of this, her work often incorporates classical references expressed through texture, shade, and form. Moreover, through her creative platform Ruby’s Kitchen, she brings these artistic influences to life. There, she produces video content that reinterprets masterpieces — from Klimt and Van Gogh to Frida Kahlo — using makeup as her medium. As a result, each look becomes both technically brilliant and conceptually rich.
LOST IN SPACE : A Beauty Editorial That Pushes The Boundaries.
In LOST IN SPACE, Makeup Artist Ruby Mazuel once again pushes the boundaries of editorial beauty. Not only does she blur the line between makeup and fine art, but she also invites us to imagine entirely new ways of seeing. Consequently, every brushstroke becomes a visual narrative. Each look defies traditional beauty standards and leans instead into experimental, almost cinematic expression.
