Explore: Nuel Bans Discovers Lisbon’s Magic

Fresh from the haute couture catwalks of Paris, our style oracle Nuel Bans traded the City of Lights for the sun-drenched allure of Lisbon. And boy, this fashion chameleon found inspiration in the Portuguese capital’s most unexpected corners.

A Fashion Editor’s Ode to Portugal’s Capital

“Lisbon is a city that wraps its arms around you,” Nuel shared with us. “It’s a place where history and modernity coexist in perfect harmony, where every corner holds a surprise.”

Nuel’s journey began in the heart of Alfama, a labyrinth of narrow streets that pulsate with the rhythm of Lisbon’s soul. This ancient neighborhood cast a spell on our editor with its Fado-filled nights and sun-kissed squares. “It’s like stepping back in time,” he shared, “but with a vibrant, modern twist.”

From the historic charm of Alfama, Nuel ventured into the contemporary world of LX Factory, an industrial complex from the 19th century that is home to incredibly cool shops, restaurants, bars, and chic coworking spaces. Located in the far-west of the city, in the neighborhood of Alcântara, it offers a look into the more modern side of Lisbon. “Lisbon’s commitment to sustainability and innovation is evident here,” he explained. “It’s a place where fashion, art, and eco-consciousness intertwine.”

Costa de Caparica

For a dose of nature, Nuel escaped to the pristine beaches of Costa de Caparica. “The contrast between the city’s energy and the ocean’s tranquility was refreshing,” he shared. “It’s a reminder of the importance of preserving our planet’s natural beauty.”

Nuel’s cultural immersion extended to the MAAT Museum, where he explored the intersection of art and sustainability. “It was an eye-opening experience,” he said, “a testament to Lisbon’s forward-thinking approach to the world.”

Time Out Market

For a taste of Lisbon’s culinary soul, Nuel indulged at the Time Out Market. “A feast for the senses,” he described it. “Every bite was a celebration of fresh, local ingredients.” But the Time Out Market wasn’t Nuel’s only culinary adventure. He also raved about the fresh seafood at Restaurante A Travessa, the traditional Portuguese fare at Tasca da Esquina, and the rooftop cocktails with stunning city views at Topo Chiado.

Lisbon’s vibrant fashion scene also captured Nuel’s attention. “It’s a city with a unique style,” he explained. “A perfect blend of vintage and contemporary.” Nuel spent countless hours exploring the city’s hidden fashion gems, and here are his top five picks:
