50 years of groundbreaking collections. Gaultier took his final bow on the evening of January 22, 2020 at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris. An unforgettable cast featuring Karlie Kloss, Rossy de Palma, Mylène Farmer, Winnie Harlow, Bella and Gigi Hadid. From an Irish tap dance by supermodel Coco rocha to live performances including Boy George the audience saw it all!
More than 230 outfits 50 of them new and the rest reused from previous collections were included during the hour long show worn by models, friends and artists. The looks included some of the enfants terribles most iconic designs such as the cone bra, sailor tops, Tuxedos, corsets and more.
The show began with a scène from the 1966 film « Who Are You, Polly Maggoo? » As always the iconic designer never fails to put on a theatrical performance and dancers came down with a coffin containing a model opened by Karlie Kloss.
As the show continued other performances included Dita Von Teese, Paris Jackson, Beatrice Dalle, Fanny Ardant, Catherine Ringer, Amanda Lear and Antoine de Caunes.
The audience was full of celebrities such as Mika, Miss France, Pierre Cardin his mentor from when he first began to design, Nicolas Ghesquière, Christian Louboutin, Isabel Marant, Christian Lacroix, and Dries Van Noten.
67-year-old broke the standards of gender identity and found beauty in celebrating diversity. Gaultier inspired us by following his passion with love and light and his joyful spirit through the years has never faded even on his very last show. Of Course this is just the beginning of a new chapter for Gaulter?
